Telecom Egypt Marks ‘New Beginnings’ With A Unified Brand

TE

Egypt’s state-owned telecom company, Telecom Egypt (TE), is rebranding its internet arm, TE Data in line with a unified brand strategy. The move to rebrand comes at a time when the company has acquired a 4G license, marking a ‘new beginning’ for TE as an all-inclusive operator that provides internet services besides main telecommunications services.

TE, which is is 80 percent owned by the government, acquired the license for USD 806 million (7.08 billion Egyptian pounds). The company will begin trial operations within six months of receiving frequencies.

Tamer Gadalla, Chief Executive of Telecom Egypt, said that a unified brand for both arms would accentuate the company’s strategy to fill its customers’ requirements and meet their expectations to get both services at one place under the trademark of TE. On acquiring the 4G license, that makes TE the fourth mobile carrier in the country, he said, “The ability to operate our own mobile services will allow Telecom Egypt to once again focus on growth.”

“The new design of the brand introduces Telecom Egypt as a powerful, trusted, modern yet simple and authentic place with the same old identity,” Mr Gadalla added.

Ahmed Ossama, Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at Telecom Egypt added that the step comes as part of a developmental plan that TE carries out to keep up with the market needs within Egypt’s ICT sector.
