Viacom Ups Arabic Content Focus; New Nick & MTV Channels On Cards

With an eye to grow its presence in the Middle East, Viacom International Media Networks will be expanding its entertainment network offerings in the region early next year. The media company is looking at strengthening its ability to deliver content appealing to various key age demographics in the MENA region including the kids target audience and youth.

Viacom plans to build an entity that can produce more original programming and hence is looking at investing in local Arabic content more than dubbing of its international programmes.

The media giant plans to launch three new channels – Nickelodeon HD, Nick Jr. and MTV Live HD on January 5, 2015. It would be bringing the channels through the OSN platform.

At present, Viacom already has MTV Arabia and its children’s channel Nickelodeon running in the Middle East. MTV India was also launched in the region which was a joint venture between TV18 and Viacom18.
