Vox Cinema Lines Up Blockbusters To Mark Comeback

Majid Al Futtaim Cinemas is excited to reveal its slate of upcoming movies to captivate audiences and reignite the cinema industry following months of government mandated closures and the absence of new content.

“After several months of speculation and delays, I’m excited to state that blockbusters are back at VOX Cinemas and unveil our impressive slate of must see movies. Movies not only have the power to move people but are a vital part of social life and, now more than ever, guests want the collective, exhilarating and unrivalled experience that watching a movie on the big screen provides. There is a real pent-up demand for new releases and, with major tent poles such as Tenet about to hit our theatres, we’re expecting a significant increase in box office sales,” noted Cameron Mitchell, Chief Executive Officer of Majid Al Futtaim Cinemas and Majid Al Futtaim Leisure & Entertainment.

Following the recent premiere of Scoob! (currently showing), a computer animated reboot of the beloved Scooby-Do franchise, VOX Cinemas’ upcoming wave of new releases will kick off with Peninsula (August 20), the eagerly awaited sequel to the hit Korean zombie thriller Train to Busan, which will be screened in the IMAX theatre.

He added, “The cinema industry like most industries, has been massively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. 48% of the world’s cinema screens are now re-open, and we look forward to rebuilding our industry blockbuster by blockbuster starting this week. It’s been a challenging period for our industry with content being delayed, we have been instead showing classic films and older films. That ends today, with several blockbusters about to light up our screens regionally, giving families a safe and compelling reason to again be mesmerized by the big screen.

The following week Christopher Nolan’s Tenet (August 27, 2020) will hit the big screen. In a break from tradition, the espionage thriller will launch in overseas territories, including the Middle East, ahead of the US allowing UAE audiences to be amongst the first to see the movie. In advance of the release, VOX Cinemas will also be screening a special 10th anniversary re-release of Christopher Nolan’s box office sensation Inception (August 13-26), featuring five minutes of never-before-seen footage from Tenet, which has been shrouded in secrecy.

The September slate features the Mulan (September 4, 2020), a live action adaptation of Disney’s classic animated film of the same name and The King’s Man (September 17, 2020) the third installment in Matthew Vaughan’s popular period spy franchise.

Wonder Woman 1984 (October 1, 2020) a sequel which continues the story its eponymous heroine, is sure to satiate fans of superhero movies while those who appreciate murder mysteries can look forward to Death on the Nile (October 22, 2020) in which Kenneth Branagh reprises both his directorial role and that of the iconic detective Poirot in the film adaptation of the Agatha Christie novel.

To ensure that cinemagoers have a safe and comfortable experiences, VOX Cinemas has introduced extensive precautionary measures including disinfecting auditoriums using fogging machines and sanitizing surfaces after every guest interaction. The capacity in auditoriums has also been reduced and seats next to a guest’s selection will be left vacant to allow for physical distancing. These are just some of the health and safety measures that VOX Cinemas has implemented to ensure that guests can sit back and enjoy movies with added comfort and peace of mind. VOX Cinemas’ efforts have also been recognized by the Government of Dubai, who issued the cinema operator with the Dubai Assurance stamp with verifies compliance with public health protocols.
