Facebook Adds New Features To Push E-Commerce

88 percent of the population in the Middle East visit social networking sites daily on their mobiles with Facebook leading the way with 94% users. With the high percentage seen, Facebook now wants its users to shop for clothes and other products from their mobile phones without ever leaving its app. E-commerce is the buzzword of the industry with many retails focussing on online commerce and Mcommerce. Facebook too is testing several ad features which will allow users to shop directly from Facebook app on their mobiles.

Currently, there are not many users who make online transactions due to the cumbersome and security factor, but Facebook hopes to win over more ad dollars by smoothing the process. “We’re looking to give people an easier way to find products that will be interesting to them on mobile, make shopping easier and help businesses drive sales,” said Emma Rodgers, Facebook’s head of product marketing for commerce.

The new feature will allow the user to view details of a brand and its products while staying within the Facebook page as opposed to being re-directed to a different page. It has also added a new section on its app that takes users directly to a shopping page where they can browse among numerous brands from a select group of small businesses that will gradually expand.
