The Arab Social Media Award (ASMA), an initiative of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, will be held on February 23, 2015. The award that was announced in June 2014, recognises the most important social media initiatives across the Arab region, honoring companies and individuals in various sectors who have used social media to help establish a positive interactive environment for innovation and creativity.
The award is also an indication of the significant role that social media is playing in shaping up public opinion and making an impact on consumers mindsets in the region.
Chairman of the Organising Committee, Arab Social Media Award, His Excellency Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi expressed, “The strong interest and appreciation gained by the Award emphasises the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum about the future, and his appreciation for the influential role that social media plays in our region and the world in guiding, shaping and accomplishing events.”
The award would be given across several categories including the government sector, private sector, blogs, media, sport, tolerance, entrepreneurship and politics amongst others. The award will also feature special recognition of a personality with its Personality of the Year Award.
Entries have been received from 22 countries globally such as Germany, Canada, Britain, India and Italy, with significant response from the UAE as well as Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
