Landmark Group And Dubai Cares Join Hands To Support Children

As part of its annual CSR Back to School campaign, Landmark Group, the region’s leading retail and hospitality conglomerate, has announced its support for Dubai Cares, part of Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, to raise funds in support of children caught in crisis and emergency scenarios.

Under the theme of ‘Education in Emergencies’, Landmark Group is helping raise funds through in-store and online customer donations across its popular brands, including Centrepoint, Babyshop, Splash, Shoemart, Lifestyle, Max, Shoexpress, Home Centre, Home Box, and Emax, to help children and youth, who have been affected by emergency situations, continue their education. The funds will be used to support them through rehabilitation of schools, training of teachers and provision of vital psychosocial care.

Since the start of its partnership with Dubai Cares in 2012, Landmark Group customers have donated millions to help bolster the efforts of the UAE-based global philanthropic organization that is committed to playing a key role in helping achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, which aims to ensure inclusive and quality education for all.

This year, the donations will be directed towards:

The development of the education system, training of teachers, and quality of education in Jordan as part of the ‘Transforming Refugee Education towards Excellence’ (TREE) program.
The construction of new and renovation of existing facilities in Uganda for refugee girls, to improve access to education and provide better learning environments.

Speaking on the rollout of Landmark’s CSR Back to School campaign, Nisha Jagtiani, Group Director, Landmark Group, said: Education is a universal human right that has the power to lift children out of poverty and positively impact society. As a Group, we have chosen to partner with Dubai Cares for the incredible impact they have been making in helping improve access to quality education for children, especially those who come from disadvantaged environments. This is a cause very close to our hearts and we strive to make a meaningful difference.”

Abdulla Ahmed Alshehhi, Chief Operating Officer of Dubai Cares, said: “One of the worst impacts of a crisis or a conflict is on children’s education. However, regardless of their external circumstances, every child has the right to continue their learning uninterrupted. In fact, equal access to quality education in crisis-hit areas is one of the most powerful ways to help affected children regain a sense of security and stability in an environment of uncertainty. We are thankful to the Landmark Group for their support that will help us empower children in such situations with the resources they need to return to a normal life.”

As part of its ongoing CSR activations, Landmark Group led several private sector COVID-19 relief efforts across the GCC region last year at the peak of the pandemic such as partnering with entities on Ramadan campaigns.
