As the week comes to a close, various subjects featured in MENA audiences discussion list — from football player Cristiano Ronaldo to the Golden Globe Awards to #UAECompassion.
If the week once again highlighted the Arab consumers passion for football on the one hand, on the other hand, it was about consolidating and coming together for something good which was seen in the #UAECompassion campaign. This was perhaps, the biggest discussed topic in the week where people came together to support to the refugees of the Levant region who were hit by the winterstorm Huda.
Both big and small efforts were made. On one hand, where the #UAECompassion was led by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, at individual level efforts were also made where residents engaged in spreading awareness on the campaign.
Social media played a crucial role in not just discussing issues, but also in finding solutions to these issues. In fact, a single Facebook post by a Dubai resident Leila Antakly urging some of her friends to donate for this cause immediately saw hundreds responding to her post and asking on ways for donating.
While the #UAECompassion was the most trending this week, second in line was football hero Cristiano Ronaldo. With Ronaldo in the news for winning the 2014 Ballon d’Or and confessing that his son was a Lionel Messi fan, people went berserk tweeting and re-tweeting about their most loved player.
The Golden Globe Awards was another highlight in the region especially in UAE, where everyone was discussing the winners, celebrity gowns and the awards in general.
From fulfilling social responsibilities to enjoying sports and entertainment, this week had it all.
