Dubai’s Early Weekends Brings Joy To Uber Too

Technology company Uber has released insights into rider habits in Dubai. The insights come following the completion of two year for the company in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

The findings show that Terminals 1 and 3 at Dubai International Airport were two of Dubai’s most popular requests with nearly 50 per cent of Uber riders in the city being visitors and tourists. Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates and DIFC Gate Village, which were some of the city’s other popular pickup locations, were also amongst most popular destinations. Others included the JBR area and the Ritz Carlton at DIFC.

Unsurprisingly, the weekend starts early in Dubai, and Thursdays are actually 20 per cent busier than Fridays are. True to reputation, the bustling Marina and JBR areas are the busiest during this period, with 10 per cent more drop-offs than any other location in the city.

“Dubai’s support for Uber has been incredible. We’ve offered both residents and visitors to the city a safe, reliable and affordable transportation option. As we continue to evolve our service, and Dubai continues to grow in stature as a global hub for business and tourism, the role Uber will play in helping to develop the city’s transportation ecosystem will be critical,” commented Jambu Palaniappan, Regional General Manager, Uber MEA.

Some of the city’s newer neighborhoods are also proving to be popular pick-up and drop-off destinations. In the last year, demand in Discovery Gardens and Motor City has grown at a rate that is 45 per cent more than the rest of the city. The company has also seen similarly high demand in Al Furjan, Dubai Sports City and Business Bay.
