Chinese tech player Huawei has opened up its media planning and buying for review in the region. Hitherto, the account has been handled by Initiative MENA. It is understood that apart from Initiative, media agencies Zenith and PHD are also pitching for the business.
Last year in November, Huawei was under the scanner for lack of transparency. It was criticized by the Marketing Agencies Association for its plans to create ‘an agency pool’, claiming that the agencies were not made aware by Huawei of a pitch fee before the body’s involvement.
However, the Middle Eastern market is a significant market for Huawei as both a growth driver and a region where it contributes to building a better connected world. The results for the pitch are expected to be announced soon.
