Digital Marvels Leave Vistors Spellbound At GITEX 2015

Dubai’s much awaited tech-fest went underway in the the city at World Trade Centre and is nothing less than what everyone had expected. With several tech companies showcasing their latest products and technology at the fest, GITEX gave the visitors all – from flying drones, driving stimulators, live 5G demo Kiosk and the most visited Dubai’s own Robocop placed by the Dubai police.

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, visited the du stand at GITEX Technology Week 2015. He was received by Osman Sultan, du’s Chief Executive Officer, and other representatives of the company’s senior management. Under the theme of ‘Smart: Happening Now’, du is showcasing how smart is no longer a vision but a mission.

The event also saw the launch of Dubai now, which comprises of the most commonly used apps by citizens including Salik, Nol, Etisalat, Du, Dewa, some of Dubai Municipality and Dubai Customs services, booking taxis and much more. “In line with DSG’s strategy, which seeks to ease the lives of people and enable them to access services easily at any time, and as we work as a connected and collaborative government to meet the needs of our customers and ensure that our services and policies conform to their requirements; we are pleased to announce the launch of Dubai Now,” said Ahmad Bin Humaidan, DSG Director General.

One of the key highlights of the event was the placement of a Robocop, the Smart Police Officer at the Dubai Police pavilion. The pavilion gives a peek at the several smart services provided by the department. The police is also showcasing its latest innovation with the BMW i8 plug-in hybrid car. The AED 500,000 worth supercar boosts of a non emission vehicle when driven in electric mode.

Visitors also got the opportunity to meet with high-level executives from some of Europe’s leading IT innovation companies. “The world already knows of Switzerland’s leadership in precision instruments of all kinds, from watches to airplanes, as well as our commitment to innovation, as seen in our market leading pharmaceutical sector.  What few people know well is that Switzerland is also a growing IT innovation hub,” commented Raymund Furrer, Swiss Consul General in Dubai and Head of the Swiss Business Hub.

Two Swiss companies taking part in the world’s third largest IT event are Tinext, a specialist digital marketing consultancy, and Magnolia, a digital business platform vendor. Tinext and Magnolia were responsible for the implementation of Al Arabiya’s high traffic multi-channel online news and broadcasting platform.
