Twitter Replaces Yellow Star With Red Heart For ‘Likes’

In the battle between stars and hearts, hearts seem to have won, atleast in the case of Twitter which recently replaced its yellow star icon to a red heart. Twitter replaced the ‘favourite’ option to ‘likes’ with the new heart. ‘We are changing our star icon for favorites to a heart and we’ll be calling them likes. We want to make Twitter easier and more rewarding to use, and we know that at times the star could be confusing, especially to newcomers. You might like a lot of things, but not everything can be your favorite,’ said the company.

The moment the hearts replaced the star, many users expressed their dislike. However, Twitter believes that the heart, in contrast, is a universal symbol that resonates across languages, cultures, and time zones. The heart is more expressive, enabling you to convey a range of emotions and easily connect with people. It came up with a small video to explain its intentions better. The video shows how the heart equals to different emotions like ‘yes!’, ‘congrats’, ‘lol’, ‘stay strong’, and ‘hugs’.

In the past, Periscope also used hearts and now it has been brought in Twitter and Vine as well.
