‘Whatever It Takes’ To Award The Best Clicks At HIPA

Hamdan

With its witty and compelling visuals, the latest commercial for the Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA), engages and inspires photographers to participate in this prestigious contest.

‘Do It Now, Do It Right, Do Whatever It Takes – With this message, the commercial shows some strong visuals directed by Anton Visser, director at Velocity Films.  The commercial is conceptualised by M&C Saatchi Abu Dhabi and filmed in South Africa. The adventure-filled piece takes the viewer from the African bush to frigid big wave surfing and a bustling alleyway in Thailand.

The ad seems to have the works with the length of an ordinary Cape Town alleyway transformed into an Asian marketplace, surf photographer Alan Van Gysen roped in to shoot the ocean scenes with Mr Visser shooting the big cat scenes from inside a cage in order to get up close to the lion.

The bold ad is backed by a unique drum sequence performed by Kevin Gibson in order bring an organic and spontaneous feel to the commercial. 15 different microphones were used in the recording, providing sound engineer Arnold Vermaak with a varied selection of audio for the final mix.
