Deploying Big Data For Smart Gov & Biz Decision Making

Big data analytics

The Internet of Things (IOT) is no longer a futuristic buzz term — it is here and it is now. And it is already a playing a role in the initiatives seen by authorities in the region to improve the quality of life and connecting with consumers. His Excellency Ahmed Bin Humaidan, Director General, Dubai Smart Government called IOT as one of the enablers of Dubai Smart Government.

“Achieving and succeeding people’s expectations are the core pillars of the Dubai Smart Government vision. Innovation is the primary driver of the knowledge economy and society in general; collaboration between government entities and the private sector is the key to providing value-added services to citizens. IOT is one of the enablers for Dubai Smart Government as technology is the vehicle to reach and please our consumers – the population of Dubai,” said Mr Bin Humaidan at the official inauguration of IoTX 2015 and the co-located Big Data Show.

IOT is categorizing people’s daily routine into data which can be used by marketing and logistical applications. As multiple machines, devices and appliances connect to the internet through increasingly sophisticated networks, the status quo is evolving on a daily basis and governments, businesses and industries are all incorporating Internet of Things to provide disruptive solutions to all sectors.

While speaking on the notion of IOT and how big data analytics can help structure diverse data, providing solutions more accurately, Irfan Khan, CTO at SAP’s Global Customer Operations said that industries should drive towards simplification. “Complexity lives in all forms of our enterprises and it slows down progress. 10.2 per cent or USD 237 billion of profits were lost by top 200 global companies due to hidden cost of complexity. Simplification can completely revolutionize industries. Our recently launched SAP S/4 HANA combines big data, predictive analytics, and text search to empower users to access information, adapt to changing conditions, predict outcomes, and make better decisions.”

As we approach a completely new digital world with scientific engagement and social evolution at the core, industries and businesses need to use big data to make easier, faster and smarter business decisions.

“Because of big data we are not only transforming science but even bringing along social evolution. There has been unstructured data growth, which will increase and with big data we can break the traditional data, infrastructure to store, analyze and protect them,” commented Patricia Florissi, Vice President and Global CTO for Sales, EMC Corporation.

Our world is much more connected today and as we experience an era of data science, the movement has started with technology brewing the ‘perfect storm’.
