End of An Era: Nokia Makes Way For Microsoft Lumia

Nokia

It was indeed the end of an era as Microsoft took over Nokia mobile brand. Microsoft closed a $7.2 billion deal and acquired Nokia Mobile Devices and Service Business. The acquisition led to the shutdown of Nokia brand which was once the first ever mobile phone for thousands of people.

Nokia was the only mobile device which promoted the Windows platform on mobile. It was one of the largest mobile makers of the 1990s to 2000s period, which foresaw the rising demand of mobile handsets which leading consumer electronics companies like Apple, Siemens, Sony and Philips missed. Nokia became the heartthrob of each mobile holder, with the brand becoming a fast growing name for mobile devices. At that time it faced competition from leading companies like Ericsson and Motorola.

However, as other electronic companies jumped into the lucrative mobile device manufacturing business, Nokia lumbered through. Many say that one of the reasons why Nokia couldn’t survive the competition was its slow adaption to the changing market towards smartphones, struggling to catch up with the other cellular companies. Slowly and steadily, the mobile world moved towards touch screens, while Nokia struggled to keeps its pace with the ever-changing market. The last straw was the deal with Microsoft after which Nokia Lumia was replaced with Microsoft Lumia.

With the announcement of Microsoft that it will no longer be using this name for future devices, people will have to say a nostalgic goodbye to Nokia as the indestructible phone is no more.
