Twitter is celebrating its 10-year anniversary today. The social network announced the celebration on its blog with a throwback memory of its first tweet posted by Jack Dorsey, the co-founder of the social networking site.
The blog post titled ‘Thank you! Love, Twitter’ thanks its users around the world for making Twitter what it is and using the platform to create history, driving change, lifting each other up and laughing together every day.
While the micro-blogging site is struggling with its growth, there is no denial that it is at the forefront when it comes to sharing content whether in news, opinions, views, status or even trolls. The short video created by Twitter to mark its anniversary shows how Twitter has played a significant role in some of the biggest revolutions like #arabspring, #BringBackOurGirls, #blacklivesmatter, #LoveWins and many more.
Twitter has undoubtedly changed the way people communicate online, most notably with its 140-character format that urges users to be thoughtful with their words. The video also celebrates this feature and as confirmed by Jack Dorsey last week, ends the speculation that the micro-blogging site may abandon one of its characteristic features for a 10,000 character limit.
In its official blog, Benjamin Ampen, the Head of Revenue, Twitter MENA states that a research from GlobalWebIndex shows the main audience for Twitter in Middle East is relatively young, tech-savvy and open to discovering new brands.
Also, while speaking to Arabian Marketer earlier this year, Mr Ampen stated some of the high user base markets are from MENA making the region extremely important for Twitter’s growth. Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates are leading the chart as growth drivers as there are many initiatives coming from these countries.
In Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates, about 95 percent of Twitter users are involved in shopping decisions for their households. About two thirds like to try new products and as many as 7 in 10 regularly share information about new products and services with friends and family. Twitter plans to tap on this research to increase their growth in the region.
