What’s Trending: Aleppo, Trump And Leicester

This week has been short as we have long weekend in most Middle Eastern countries starting tomorrow, however this has not affected the trending headlines.

The most trending news this week has been the worrying situation in the city of Aleppo. UN Security Council is expected to hold an urgent meeting today to discuss the crisis. But a lot of damage has already been done. One of the last standing pediatrician of the area was also killed by a missile from a fighter jet hit on the facility last week. Along with the #AleppoIsBurning and #freeSyria, activists and supporters worldwide responded by organizing protests, and social media campaigns worldwide in solidarity with the victims in Aleppo. Many Facebook users changed their profile pictures to solid red, to raise awareness and spread the word about Aleppo’s bombardment; while many others have been left disappointed as Facebook has not yet activated its ‘safety check’ feature for the residents of Aleppo.

The other trending event this week was the celebration of Labor Day all over the world on 1st May. On the same day, nine police officers were wounded and two were killed in a bomb explosion outside the police station in Turkey’s Gaziantep near the Syrian border.

Moving onto soccer, fans all around the globe were treated to and will be looking forward to some very interesting matches this week. However no matter their allegiances, the most trending headline in soccer has been the fairytale story of Leicester city becoming the Champions of England, even though the English Premier League is not over yet.

The latest trending news seen today morning is Donald Trump becoming the presumptive nominee for the Republican as Ted Cruz drops out of the race. With this news, the worst nightmare of many people is close to becoming a reality.

Leicester winning the EPL, Trump becoming the Republican nominee and an absence of seize fire in Aleppo, it is definitely a strange world where nothing is predictable anymore.
