It may have been disheartening to see only one entry shortlisted in Mobile Lions at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity considering that the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region is seen as one of the fastest growing mobile markets. But the saving grace is that 3SG – BBDO Ariana Tunisia has won a Silver Lion.

3SG – BBDO Ariana was the only agency shortlisted in the Mobile Lions in the 109 shortlists this years at Cannes. The winning entry is titled ‘The Backup Memory’ campaign for Samsung. The Back Up Memory is a collaborative project that aims to help people who suffer from Alzheimer disease to be more independent and have more autonomy and make life easier for them and for their loved ones.

In the category, Google Mountain View USA has won the Mobile Lions Grand Prix for its entry titled ‘Cardboard’.

In all, 57 Mobile Lions were awarded, with Google Mountain View taking home the Grand Prix for Google ‘Cardboard’ – an idea that almost rendered the technology invisible in order to allow the experience to seem natural.

Jury President Joanna Monteiro, VP Creative Director, FCB Brazil said that it had made virtual reality far more accessible. “The jury believed that this is a game-changer since it democratizes VR. Cardboard costs about $20 and will allow brands to engage many more consumers, offering them a different level of experience.”
