What’s Trending: Champions League, Olympics & GoT

The week started with the sad news of death of celebrity singer, musician and actor Prince Rogers Nelson. The musician who had reported cases of illness previously was found unresponsive on April 21 before being declared dead. Musicians, celebrities and fans all over the world took to various social media platforms to mourn his death with #PrinceRIP.

This week also saw the release of the fan-favorite ‘Game of Thrones’ season 6. The series, which is based on George R. R. Martins’s novel series A Song of Ice and Fire, has now surpassed the storyline in the latest of the released novel, making the season much more anticipated as compared to the previous ones. Fans from all around the globe showed their excitement using various social media platforms with #GameofThrones

Given that all the major soccer leagues around Europe are coming to their conclusions, not a week has recently passed without football matches making into the trending list. The week saw Juventus wining the Italian #SerieA title in Italy, and Tottenham Hotspur drawing against West Brownwich Albion allowing Leicester to move an inch closer of becoming the English Champions. But perhaps the biggest of the trending matches have been the semi-final matches between Manchester City and Real Madrid, as well the one between Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich which trended with #HalaMadrid.

And in the last bit of trending headlines was Salman Khan’s appointment as the Goodwill Ambassador of India for the upcoming Olympics. The decision was met with an overall criticism with many sport personalities, including wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt, sprinter Milkha Singh and hockey star Dhanraj Pillay, suggesting that a sportsperson should have been chosen as the ambassador. This led to a twitter joke #BadAmbassadorIdea, where Twitteratis gave imaginary examples of similar mismatches.

That’s all for this week. Until next time, Adieu.
